| Dear Friends,
Appalling conditions at Glasgow Zoo have recently been exposed. Advocates for Animals, along with other animal protection groups, is campaigning for Glasgow City Council to withdraw the zoo's license. Our investigations into the zoo found: * evidence of abnormal animal behaviour
The council's Licensing Committee also believes that present conditions at Glasgow Zoo are unacceptable. It has decided to finally resolve this issue at its next meeting on 30th October 2002. In the event that the licence is withdrawn, we believe that a Working Group should be established to ensure that suitable long-term homes are secured for the animals in the zoo. The campaign is at a crucial stage and we are writing to ask for your help. The Licensing Committee's meeting on 30th October 2002 will decide on the future of the zoo. We believe that we have a real chance of closing this zoo for good. There has been a lot of bad media coverage for the zoo, and Glasgow City Council must be concerned about how the zoo is reflecting on Glasgow's image - both here in Scotland and abroad. We would be most grateful if you could send a polite e-mail to Councillor Devine, Convenor of Glasgow City Council's Licensing Committee: christine.devine@councillors.glasgow.gov.uk. Please express your concern about conditions at the zoo and mention that the zoo is damaging the good reputation of Glasgow. Please ask the Committee to withdraw Glasgow Zoo's license. With best wishes and thanks for your support. Yours sincerely ROSS MINETT
